Every day nearly 12,000 young people turn 18 years old, and unfortunately there is no systematic way in this country to register them to vote and educate them about the political process and the power of their participation.
What if every young person in America had a civic education in high school and was taught about their power as citizens in our democracy? And one day, once a year, every student in America was asked to register to vote and given the tools they need to participate in elections? That’s what we at Rock the Vote are hoping to accomplish – by offering Democracy Class as the first step toward civic education for all!
Twenty-two years ago, Rock the Vote was founded to strengthen our country’s democracy by making politics relevant to young Americans, providing a simple entree into the process through registering them to vote. It’s in this spirit that we created Democracy Class, helping to expand our electorate and provide the tools for schools and educators to engage their student body in the democratic process.
